Kodiak
Kodiak is the working heart of the Gulf of Alaska. The island sits 250 miles southwest of Anchorage and supports the second-largest fishing port in the United States by volume. The waters around Kodiak hold halibut, sablefish, salmon, Pacific cod, rockfish, and Tanner crab — most of which are caught by the kind of small-boat operators Pacific Cloud is built around.
The fleet here is a mix of 32–58-foot vessels, many family-owned, working longline, jig, pot, and seine gear. Quality discipline is high because the boats are small enough that the captain handles every fish. The rough Gulf weather and remote grounds keep industrial fleets out — which is precisely why the fish that come back to the docks are the ones we want.
The F/V *Pacific Cloud* operates out of Kodiak. Most of the seafood Pacific Cloud sources directly comes through this port.
“Tougher water, smaller boats, better fish.”
